Camp CMC is full for summer 2022
Make great music and new friends at Community Music Center this summer! Camp CMC offers young musicians the chance to play in small and large groups and explore many musical styles such as Latin, jazz, classical, blues, folk, rock spirituals and swing, American song book, and klezmer. Students are grouped into ensembles by instrument and level. There are opportunities to work on general musicianship skills including playing percussion, singing, and rhythmic movement. Campers share their work in a performance at the end of the week.
Instruments: All instruments, and voice
Styles of music studied: Classical, Latin, jazz, other
Prerequisites: Minimum two years of study on an instrument and concurrent enrollment in private lessons (not necessarily at CMC). Vocal students may fulfill the requirement by participating in chorus or glee club. Students will be asked to schedule a friendly ten-minute placement audition.
Camp size: A maximum of 14 students working in large and small ensembles

CMC’s Musical Discovery Camp introduces kids to songs, rhythms, and the joys of making music. The week’s activities include singing, rhythm work, a basic introduction to music theory, and an introduction to guitar and/or percussion. Campers will be part of an ensemble where they will learn about dynamics, sound quality, listening and playing at the same time, staying in rhythm, and following the conductor. At the end of the week, students will share their work in an informal performance.
Instruments: Students will play instruments provided by the instructors
Styles of music studied: Contemporary, Latin, Caribbean, African-American
Prerequisites: Previous experience singing or playing an instrument is welcome but not required
Camp size: Maximum 25 students

Chamber Music Camp is full for summer 2022
Spend a week this summer playing in supportive small ensembles, coached daily by experienced CMC faculty. Students may also participate in master classes, large ensembles by instrument, and daily independent chamber music rehearsals. Pre-formed groups as well as individuals are encouraged to apply. An informal recital will be presented at the end of camp.
Instruments: Piano, Strings, Woodwinds and Brass
Styles of music studied: Classical
Prerequisites: Minimum three years of private lessons on an instrument. As part of the application, you will sign up for a friendly ensemble placement audition in March or April. Students are asked to perform two contrasting pieces: one slow and one fast; and a two-octave scale in the key of your choice.
Camp size: A maximum of 25 students
Location, Day and Time: Richmond District Branch; Monday–Friday, July 11-15, 2022, 9:00am–12:00 noon
