Places We Want to Visit: Sharon Wayne and Nicole Takesono

Classical Guitarist Sharon Wayne and special guest, mezzo-soprano Nicole Takesono, take you on a musical journey through vibrant cultural traditions of the world. The program includes brand new arrangements of works by Norwegian composer Halfdan Kjerulf,  settings of Greek songs by Maurice Ravel, traditional Sephardic songs, Portuguese Fado, and Hawai’ian songs.

About the Artists:

CMC guitar faculty Sharon Wayne received her BM and MM degrees from USC and has been an active solo performer, chamber musician, and teacher in both the San Francisco and Boston areas for over 30 years. She has recorded six CDs of solo and chamber music. Passionate about new music, she has premiered works by fellow CMC faculty, Erik Pearson and Davide Verotta; local composers Steve Mobia and Nancie Kester; as well as by internationally lauded Carlo Domeniconi and Dušan Bogdanoviċ, Frank Wallace, Scott August, David Paul Mesler, and others. In addition to teaching and accompanying at CMC, Sharon will assume the role of CMC Faculty Council chair this Fall. She is excited to bring this world-travelling project to light with Nicole!

Hailing from Hawaii, mezzo-soprano Nicole Takesono has garnered acclaim for her rich, warm voice and profound dedication to storytelling. Ms. Takesono has graced the stages of esteemed companies such as the San Francisco Opera, Opera San Jose, West Edge Opera, Festival Opera, and West Bay Opera, among others. Recently, she has shifted her focus to recital work, collaborating closely with guitarist Sharon Wayne. Ms. Takesono studies with Deborah Benedict and coaches with Kevin Korth, and Benji & Nori Flowers.
