In 1921, Gertrude Field founded Community Music Center with one mission: music for everyone. Many things have changed since then, but CMC’s mission has remained the same. Our commitment to accessibility and our extensive tuition assistance program have ensured that no one is denied the opportunity to study music here for lack of ability to pay.
Last year, over 3,100 students from all ages and backgrounds studied music at CMC and thousands of community members enjoyed free and low-cost concerts.
CMC’s mission of accessibility drives every aspect of our work. Our tuition assistance program, which totaled nearly $2.4M last year supports students through free programs, scholarships, and sliding-scale tuition. CMC’s award-winning Young Musicians Program offers free, comprehensive music education to local youth. On the other end of the age spectrum, our Older Adult Choir Program brings the joys of singing to diverse, low-income adults, benefiting their health and well-being.
