Katy Kuei

(2024). Katy Kuei has a Master degree of Music in Piano Performance and is currently teaching at Mission San Jose High School in Fremont, CA. She has taught ongoing at UC Berkeley Academic Talent Development Program starting in 2019. She has been awarded grants and teaching fellowships from industries and universities in the SF Bay Area in recognition of her teaching excellence in STEAM. She has received three IISME innovation awards, and has taught at the internationally recognized Research Science Institute at Tsinghua University, Beijing.

Katy is a student of Earl Wild and Andre LaPlante. Katy’s student won the Bartok-Kabalevsky International Piano Competition Second Place. She taught the advanced GATE Piano program in Haopu Elementary Music School in Taiwan. Katy also has extensive experience playing piano accompaniment for instrumental solo recitals such as flute, violin, trumpet and percussion, as well as for voice. She has played orchestral transcriptions for operas and for musical rehearsals. She performed regularly for the Black Hills Voices in Concert, Black Hills Chamber Music Trio, and the Dakota Choral Union (a 100 member group) for many years before moving to the SF Bay Area.

Katy has a passion and great talent for teaching science, technology, and music, making her a true STEAM educator and a modern-day polymath. She possesses wide-ranging skills and knowledge, and a strong desire to pass these down to her students.
