Cellist Ayoun Alexandra Kim, originally from Cheonan, Korea, is a versatile and engaging performer and educator, recognized for her artistry in both chamber music and solo performance as well as her dedication to music education and community engagement. She is Suzuki-trained and certified through the New York School of Strings, and her approach emphasizes a nurturing, student-centered environment that fosters technical proficiency, musical expression, and a lifelong love of learning. Kim teaches classical repertoire, chamber music, and early Suzuki method studies for cello.
As a performer, she has appeared with esteemed artists including Shai Wosner, Melissa White, Kim Kashkashian, and the Telegraph Quartet, performing in San Francisco’s Chamber Music Tuesday series and at the Rossmoor Chamber Music Society. She recently participated in the Music@Menlo 2024 International Program, collaborating with distinguished faculty artists. She is a member of the Ethea Trio, continuing an enriching performance career.
Her achievements include awards in the Yamaha Young Performing Artist Competition, Artist Presentation Society, Musicians Club of Women, and the Korean Young Artist Competition. She has performed at festivals including the Norfolk Chamber Music Festival, Sarasota Music Festival, Spoleto Festival, Kneisel Hall, Verão Clássico, and the Mozarteum Sommerakademie, studying with renowned cellists such as Laurence Lesser, Steven Doane, Myung-Wha Chung, Frans Helmerson, Gary Hoffman, and Maria Kliegel.
She holds Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees from The Juilliard School and an Artist Diploma from the San Francisco Conservatory of Music, and continues to perform, teach, and mentor students of all ages and levels.
