Sumi Lee & Ramiro Boero: From Seoul to Buenos Aires: The New Tango

We welcome the Lee – Boero Tango Duo for the best of both worlds—be transported by the world premiere of new works, combined with well-loved but rarely performed Piazzolla repertoire. Whether your groove is hip-hop, rock, Bach, or bebop, contemporary tango will move your soul.

Performing as the Lee–Boero Tango Duo, Latin Grammy–nominated maestro Ramiro Boero, one of today’s foremost tango musicians, and acclaimed Korean-born SF pianist Sumi Lee, will premiere  Boero’s new original works alongside pieces from their recently recorded album.  Together they fuse classical depth, tango’s irresistible rhythms, jazz freedom, and compelling storytelling.

They are joined prominent Bay Area musician, Iryna Klimashevska, a virtuoso classical and tango violinist, who will perform bandoneon-and-violin duos, piano-and-violin duos, and a trio of iconic Piazzolla works, including Escualo and Adiós Nonino. With intricate arrangements, expressive melodies, and electrifying interplay among piano, bandoneon, and violin, this performance promises a vibrant cross-cultural journey that will captivate and move every audience member.
