Somatic Education for Musicians Masterclass

Join CMC Faculty Sonja Riket for a free participatory masterclass. Discover Somatic Education for musicians at CMC and learn tools for injury prevention, rehabilitation, and performance enhancement for instrumentalists and vocalists of all types and levels.

Our body is our instrument. How we use it influences the quality of our movements and the sounds we make with our voices and instruments.

In this class, you will learn tools to free yourself from tension, pain and injury. By improving your posture, breathing, tone and coordination you will enhance your ease and confidence in technical proficiency and help you find a dynamic expression and creativity in performing, composing and improvising. These tools are based on embodied anatomy and physiology, movement skills and guided attention to ensure the quality and longevity of your musical life.

“Somatic Education for Musicians” is a unique course of study in the Bay Area, based on the integration of two somatic modalities: the Feldenkrais® Method and Body-Mind Centering®, the work of Bonnie Bainbridge Cohen.

Open to: all instrumentalists and vocalists. Participants are invited to ask questions about challenges in their technique and expression. Please bring your instrument for hands-on advice (piano is available in room).

To participate: Select the participant ticket option if you would like to join the masterclass and receive feedback. Audience/Observers are also welcome to join. Please note that space is limited and advanced registration is highly recommended.
