Community Music Center is excited to present their first Mariachi Instrument Petting Zoo during the pre-concert exhibit and activities at this year’s Día de los Muertos festivities at Davies Symphony Hall. Both children and adults will be able to participate in this immersive musical experience, led by CMC’s Mariachi faculty and Mariachi professional Daphne González-Cambambia. She will bring a group of young players to demonstrate four Mariachi string instruments – guitar, vihuela, guitarrón, and violin – and guests will be instructed on how to properly hold and play them.
The annual Día de los Muertos celebration, curated by CMC’s faculty member Martha Rodríguez-Salazar, begins at 1 pm on Saturday, November 2 when the lobbies open their doors for audience members to enjoy Day of the Dead altars, installations, and family activities. The concert will start at 3 pm, the SF Symphony will perform a diverse program of Latin American symphonic works, with Mexican conductor Carlos Miguel Prieto and Venezuelan trumpet soloist Pacho Flores.
