Mission Music Night with Mission Arts Performance Project

Enjoy some great music, connect with neighborhood community, discover something new, and don’t forget to wear your dancing shoes! CMC is excited to rejoin the bimonthly neighborhood favorite Mission Arts Performance Project (MAPP) again since 2020. A newly expanded Mission Branch Campus means more room for more music! CMC’s Cultural Traditions department will present a series of free performances from group class ensembles as part of the MAPP events, featuring our talented faculty and student ensembles—from jazz to Latin to R&B and more.

Saturday, February 3

Recital Hall Performances:

  • 6–7pm:  R&B vocal ensemble with Clif Payne features music from legends like the Supremes, Martha and the Vandelllas, Temptations, 4 Tops and other fantastic Soul and R&B music from the late 50s–90s.
  • 7:30–8:30pm: CMC Jazz Quintet with Erick Peralta playing repertoire drawing from the music of the great jazz quintets from the 1950s to the present; including compositions and arrangements by Horace Silver, John Coltrane, Miles Davis, Pat Metheny, and Roy Hargrove.

Concert Hall Performances:

  • 6:30–7:15pm: CMC Cuban Music Fundamentals Ensemble with Tregar Otton playing music from the island and the Americas with winds, brass, strings and a Cuban Rhythm section featuring Dance music from Danzon, bolero to Salsa. Dance floor will be open!
  • 7:45–9pm CMC Cuban Charanga Ensemble with Tregar Otton featuring everything from Cuban Danzón and Boleros and Cha Cha Cha to Timba, across the spectrum of Cuban dance music from the 1940s through today. The 14 piece Cuban dance ensemble is excited to return to the Afro-Cuban Dance Party of previous MAPP events. Dance floor open!

MAPP is a lively, old-school Mission-wide party, well-attended by folks from the neighborhood and afar with bimonthly events all over the Mission for over 15 years. MAPP is dedicated to cultivating, building and defending the culture, history, character and community in the Mission District—transforming public spaces, non-profits, street corners, BART stations, cafes, bars, taquerias, garages and homes, into venues with free live music, spoken word, performance art, film screenings, delicious food, and a wide range of unique happenings.

Be sure to check out additional CMC-MAPP performance events this year: February 3, April 6, and June 1, 2024.
