ABOUT COMMUNITY MUSIC CENTER (CMC)
Community Music Center’s mission is to make high quality music accessible to people of all ages, backgrounds and abilities, regardless of financial means. We’re committed to centering equity and inclusion in our programs and across all aspects of our organization. We are a nonprofit institution founded in 1921 with branches in the Mission District, Richmond Districts, and at partnership sites throughout San Francisco serving 3,300 students annually. Our expanded campus at our Mission District Branch, including a newly built Recital Hall, opened in January 2024.
POSITION SUMMARY
The Weekday Reception position at Community Music Center will be a part of the CMC reception team
while aiding the operations and registration team. You will be the first person welcoming the community onsite and will help ensure that students, faculty, and renters have the best experience possible at CMC. The ideal candidate would be fluent in both English and Spanish, a strong communicator with a positive attitude, and someone who can work well in a busy environment.
ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES
Front Desk Management
- Greet and assist visitors in a courteous manner, answering inquiries, checking in renters, and directing visitors to the appropriate staff or classrooms
Phone & Email Communications
- Handle phone calls and emails professionally, providing information about classes, schedules, and general inquiries.
- Relay messages promptly to relevant parties.
Operations Support
- Assist with facility operations needs, including greeting vendors, maintaining a clean and tidy work environment, watering plants, processing mail, and any additional support requested by the Operations Team.
- Collect payments for rental spaces, direct renters, and help ensure a positive experience for event attendees.
- Learn and execute the rental process and assist the Hall Manager when needed during events.
- The receptionist will also be responsible for opening/closing the building and will need a full
understanding of the alarm system (training provided).
Registration Support
- Assist with the registration process, including collecting and processing fees, maintaining accurate records, renting instruments, and helping prospective students with enrollment procedures as directed by the Registration Team.
Schedule Coordination
- Assist with scheduling and room bookings.
- Communicate with CMC instructors to ensure the smooth operation of classes and events.
Administrative Tasks
- Perform various administrative duties such as filing, data entry, and maintaining office supplies to support the efficient functioning of the CMC campus.
Customer Service
- Address concerns, provide information, and ensure a positive experience for students and parents.
- Resolve issues or escalate them to the appropriate staff when necessary.
- Learn and enact CMC’s de-escalation procedure and first aid procedure.
- Relay messages promptly to relevant parties.
PREFERRED SKILLS
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Positive attitude in a busy environment
- Candidates fluent in both English and Spanish preferred
Working conditions: This is a full-time, in-person position. The hours for Weekday Reception staff are Monday through Friday from 8:30am to 5:30pm.
Compensation: This is a part-time position with an hourly rate of $30–$35

Violin Instructor
Violin Instructor
Community Music Center CMC is looking for a violin instructor for our Mission District Branch to teach private lessons. The ideal candidate will possess the skills and passion to teach people of all ages, varying from beginner to more advanced levels. This position is scheduled to start in Fall Quarter 2025.
Status: Hourly beginning September 2025
Location and Hours: CMC Mission District Branch
Studio Times: Tuesdays, 3:00–7:00pm
Compensation: $46/hour. Additional opportunities are available for compensated performances and meetings, free practice room and studio rental as available.
