When Stelly Kuo first showed up to volunteer at CMC, she wasn’t nervous, she was excited. “I played in the school marching band for 10+ years. I wanted to see more kids getting excited about music.” That same energy still fuels her each time she returns to volunteer.
Her journey began thanks to a workplace program that matched donations based on volunteer hours. “I wanted to give back to the community with my time and a little extra from my company,” she explains. “I keep coming back because I enjoy the music and people I work with at the CMC.”
One of her favorite memories is from a past Field Day performance. “I really enjoyed the musical performances and the galas. I recall a couple of years back, there were a couple of opera singers singing amazing songs.”
Volunteering has also become a way to connect with her family. Stelly and her daughter have volunteered together at events, and the experience has had a lasting impact. “I wanted to encourage my children to get excited about music and give back to the community in their own way. Volunteering in a safe and pleasant environment is important to me. Showing her that there are many ways to help hopefully will encourage her to become more active in the community and more importantly, value in person / face to face interactions with other human beings.”
Through her service, Stelly has deepened her connection to CMC’s mission. “I just like the music. I love seeing the joy of music from kids and elderly singing groups.”
And for anyone thinking about signing up to volunteer? Her advice is simple: “You get a free concert every time you volunteer!”
Join Stelly and other amazing volunteers at Field Day on Saturday, June 1! It’s a fun, music-filled celebration, and volunteers play a vital role in making the day special. Sign up today and be part of the magic.
