After a bustling inaugural Community Open House event at CMC’s new Richmond District location, fall classes and lessons are filling the space with music. This August, students, friends, supporters, community members, faculty, and staff joined to welcome CMC to its new Geary Boulevard location—playing music, exploring the expanded new facilities, and connecting and celebrating an exciting new beginning after 40+ years.
The energy of Fall Quarter brings the vision for our new Richmond District Branch to life, providing new opportunities for students of all ages and a renewed sense of inspiring community music-making. The additional space allows us to reduce scheduling constraints, create a comfortable, accessible environment for students and families, and explore new classes, ensembles, and community programs and partnerships over time. A more modern interior also creates consistency between our Mission and Richmond District Branches in both amenities and offerings.
What’s new:
- Modern teaching spaces with upgraded equipment
- Larger spaces for ensembles and small recitals
- Piano Lab for group classes like CMC Sparks Program and Intro to Piano for Adults, coming soon!
- Centralization of education and administration spaces creates a welcoming environment, easier communication, and a sense of community
- Convenient location close to public transit and local businesses connects us to the neighborhood we love
Private lesson and ensemble students now fill the space with music everyday. Larger teaching spaces have allowed for a homecoming of classes like String Orchestra and Chamber Music Ensembles that previously rehearsed at St. John’s Church due to space limits. Unification of private and ensemble instruction in one space means that both faculty and students are able to feel more included, connected to and inspired by one another, and can partake in the excitement of the musical community so essential to the CMC experience.
CMC faculty member Jono Kornfeld remarks: “The new RDB space has a welcoming modern look and feel. It’s laid out efficiently, with quick access to admin and equipment needs, and some rooms feature cool views of the Golden Gate Bridge! Break times are easy too, with a whole new crop of restaurants and cafes nearby. With so many rooms, the increased capacity and expansion of program offerings will mean more music for more people.”
