After a lively fall series, CMC is excited to continue our partnership with Mission District neighbors at Bissap Baobab to provide live music every 1st and 3rd Wednesday this winter! Enjoy delicious West African food, tasty beverages, and awesome community “teranga” (hospitality)—with a variety of talented CMC students, faculty, and community performers. It’s a great opportunity for students to socialize and play with other musicians. The second set of each performance will open up for guests to sit in and join the jam—so bring your instrument and talk to the CMC instructor during the break if you want to play! Come listen, dance, and celebrate the vibrant culture of the Mission District.
Both CMC and Bissap Baobab share a passion for connecting cultures through arts, celebrating the influence of diaspora, and love of our Mission District neighborhood, so it felt natural to come together to provide an opportunity to support local artists, business, and the community: connecting to new audiences and highlighting the wide-ranging talents found in our midst. Marco Senghor, Bissap Baobab’s owner remarks that “CMC creates a space where young people and teachers congregate to share their passion for music. There are no boundaries, no divisions—just pure love radiating from their performances.”
Join us this winter for incredible music, grab a bite, imbibe in craft cocktails, and bring your dancing shoes! Performances include a variety of jazz and music from the Caribbean and Latin America, from iconic standards to traditional to contemporary.
Every 1st and 3rd Wednesday, from 6:00–8:00pm
