Celebrate the Holidays with “Navidad en la Misión”:  A Joyful Musical Tradition Returns

This December, CMC invites everyone to celebrate the season with Navidad en la Misión, a joyful concert that brings together the sounds, rhythms, and traditions of Christmas from Spain and Latin America. The event will take place on Sunday, December 7, 2025, at 4:00 pm at Mission Dolores Basilica in San Francisco.

Building on the success of past years, Navidad en la Misión will feature performances by Coro de Cámara, Coros de la Misión, and Mariachi CMC, all under the direction of CMC faculty member Martha Rodríguez-Salazar. Known for leading many of CMC’s beloved holiday productions, including La Posarela, Rodríguez-Salazar designed this year’s concert to bring together students, faculty, and community members in a celebration that bridges cultures and generations.

As Rodríguez-Salazar explains, “Navidad en la Misión is not merely a concert; it’s a celebration of unity, cultural heritage, and the power of music to spread joy in challenging times. The event promises to be a testament to resilience, fostering connections, and bringing light to a world that increasingly feels divisive and isolating. Our choirs and Mariachi ensemble are thrilled to be in person again to raise their voices in song and celebrate the season.”

This year’s program includes a rich mix of Spanish Baroque, Early Mexican Baroque, and Latin American holiday favorites, featuring pieces such as Convidando Está la Noche, La Marimorena, Mi Burrito Sabanero, and Feliz Navidad. A talented instrumental ensemble—featuring Jennifer Peringer (accordion), Michaela Overall (piano), Camellia Latta (flute), Miguel Govea (guitarrón), and Osvaldo Carvajal (percussion)—will accompany the singers, filling the Basilica with vibrant harmonies and festive energy.

CMC is once again partnering with Mission Dolores Basilica and its music director, Jerome Lenk, to present this all-Spanish-language concert. Together, they have created a program that reflects the cultural richness of the Mission District and resonates deeply with the local community.

After the concert, guests are invited to stay for a piñata celebration with hot chocolate and tamales for sale. A perfect way to continue the evening of music, warmth, and community spirit!
