Joshua Pollock

(2020) Josh has been teaching guitar, ukulele, and drums, privately and at Presidio Hill School for 8 years.  His teaching style is very much about the student having fun, focusing on what songs/style/approach each individual student is inherently interested in, as his experience has been that once the brain registers playing guitar as a fun thing to do, getting better becomes a gateway to more fun, rather than a chore or an exercise.  Josh can help with blues, folk, pop, rock, punk, and post-punk styles, with effects pedals guidance a particular specialty.

Josh has performed extensively around the world, with the likes of John Cale, Flea, Van Dyke Parks and the Japanese collective Acid Mothers Temple, amongst others.  He is a prolific musician with a variety of bands/projects/instruments, whose discography contains over 50 releases in the last decade alone, including several different bands, solo projects, guest appearances, and scores for film and theater.

Josh has a BA degree in theater from SF State University, where he first honed his specialty of combining music and theater in unique ways, such as his singular junkyard drum-set in The Shotgun Players’ recent production of Tom Waits’ “The Black Rider.”
