Cherie Chooljian

(2026). Her educational background is diverse. She holds degrees from Stanford (BA), Harvard (M.Ed), and USF (J.D.) She grew up studying classical piano with Alan Rea, and continued as an adult with Wilhelm Schwarzott and also Marc Steiner, with whom she studied the Taubman technique. She also studied Schenker analysis at Harvard.

She augmented her classical study with jazz studies at Berklee School of Music, the New England Conservatory, and private lessons with Harvey Diamond and legendary jazz teacher Charlie Banacos.

Her professional experience covers a wide range, including: Ballet accompanist at SF Ballet, American Conservatory Theater, and other independent ballet companies in San Francisco; keyboardist in various rock and blues bands; keyboardist and composer in the jazz bands of the Pickle Family Circus, the San Francisco Mime Troupe, and Make-a-Circus; jazz pianist/vocalist in upscale hotels; Latin/salsa pianist in several San Francisco bands, including Dr Loco’s Rockin’ Jalapeno Band, Benny Velarde Super Combo, Mazacote, Danilo Orquesta, Azabache, and Los Compas.
