Community Music Center is pleased to welcome Renzo Luján and Jim Callahan to its Board of Directors. Elected at CMC’s annual meeting in June, Renzo and Jim bring valuable experience, strong community connections, and a shared commitment to making high-quality music education accessible to all.
Renzo brings a background in banking, nonprofit finance, and fundraising, along with deep connections to San Francisco’s Mission District. His financial expertise, community perspective, and relationships across the corporate and nonprofit sectors will be important assets as CMC carries out its new strategic plan and continues to grow its programs and impact.
“CMC demonstrates what is possible when artistic excellence and community access are treated as equally important,” Renzo said. “I am honored to join the Board and look forward to helping CMC remain strong, sustainable, and responsive to the communities it serves.”
Jim is the founder of Piedmont Piano Company and has been a friend, advisor, and supporter of CMC for many years. His election to the Board builds upon decades of involvement with the organization and a lifelong commitment to musicians, educators, and the Bay Area arts community. Jim’s extensive knowledge of the music field and long history with CMC give him a particularly meaningful perspective on the organization’s work.
“Having worked with CMC for over 30 years, I’ve seen firsthand the extraordinary role CMC plays in the lives of its students, its faculty, and the community,” Jim said. ”I’m honored to join this board and help ensure that this remarkable institution continues serving generations of musicians.” Jim said. “It is a privilege to deepen my involvement and help ensure that this remarkable institution continues serving generations of musicians.”
The election of Renzo and Jim is part of CMC’s ongoing effort to build a thoughtful, engaged, and representative leadership pipeline. Board member Brooke Joseph is helping to lead CMC’s nomination work, identifying and cultivating community members who can contribute their experience, perspective, and passion to the organization.
“Strong leadership begins with people who believe deeply in the mission and are ready to share their talents in service of it,” Brooke said. “Renzo and Jim each bring something distinctive to the Board, and we are delighted to welcome them as CMC enters an exciting new chapter!”
