CMC Musicians Provide Live Music in New Series at Bissap Baobab this Fall

CMC is excited to join our neighbors at Bissap Baobab to provide live music every 1st and 3rd Wednesday! Enjoy delicious West African food, tasty beverages, and awesome community “teranga” (hospitality)—with a variety of talented CMC students, faculty, and community performers. It’s also a great opportunity for students to socialize and play with other musicians. The second set of each performance will open up for guests to sit in and join the jam—so bring your instrument and talk to the CMC instructor during the break if you want to play! Come listen, dance, and celebrate the vibrant culture of the Mission District.

CMC first began a collaborative partnership with Bissap Baobab in 2018, organizing local jazz and Latin music jam sessions at the beloved venue, and are thrilled to be able to revisit the cooperation after several years. August featured performances by  jazz quartet Farallon—comprised of talented young students and alumni of the Young Musicians Program—and the Cuban Charanga Ensemble led by Tregar Otton, and we’ve scheduled regular bimonthly through the fall following their success.

Both CMC and Bissap Baobab share a passion for connecting cultures through arts (culinary and performance), celebrating the influence of diaspora, and love of our Mission District neighborhood. Coming together provides a mutually beneficial opportunity to support local artists, business, and the community: connecting to new audiences and highlighting the wide-ranging talents found in our midst.

Join us this fall for incredible music, grab a bite, imbibe in craft cocktails, and bring your dancing shoes! Performances include a variety of  jazz and music from the Caribbean and Latin America, from iconic standards to traditional to contemporary.

Every 1st and 3rd Wednesday, from 6:00–8:00pm
