(2016) Vutu Nguyen is nearing completion of his PhD in Musicology at Claremont Graduate University and is currently writing a dissertation on 19th century piano methods. He has returned to the Bay Area where he received his MM and BM in Piano (chamber emphasis) from San Francisco State University and was a graduate of the San Francisco Conservatory of Music Preparatory Division. Notable performances include international venues like Salle Cortot and L’ecole normale de Musique in Paris, and more locally at Old First Church and Forest Hill Concerts in San Francisco, and the Westminster Presbyterian Church in Sacramento.
Aside from his academic and performing career, Vutu is an accomplished educator and is dedicated to cultivating the talents of others. In 2007 he was awarded the MTNA Achievement Recognition for Excellence in Piano Pedagogy and the SFSU Student-Teacher Award. His charismatic personality captures the attention of young beginners while his unique approaches to the curriculum allow lessons to be catered to more advanced students.
Vutu is also an active accompanist for various choirs and soloists in the Bay Area including SFCMC’s very own New Voices Bay Area TIGQ Chorus.
Vutu is also an avid sports fan and licensed soccer coach.
