Ashten Smith

(2015) Ashten has enjoyed a career as a voice teacher and music director for many years. A native of southern California, Ashten received her BA in Music from California State University, Bakersfield. During her time there, she served as the resident director of music for Spotlight Theater of Bakersfield where she oversaw all main stage productions and managed the Spotlight School of the Arts geared toward youth. Directing credits include: Into the Woods, The Producers, Next to Normal and Disney’s The Little Mermaid, to name a few. A passionate music educator, Ashten has also taught as a band and choir teacher at the elementary, middle and high school levels in both the public and private school systems.

As a vocalist, Ashten has been a finalist in the David W. Scott Memorial Vocal Competition as well as the Classics Alive Competition in Beverly Hills, CA. She has also been a featured soloist in the Bakersfield Master Chorale’s performance of Ceremony of Carols (Britten). Previous opera and musical theater performance credits include: Miss Wordsworth (Albert Herring), Eliza Doolittle (My Fair Lady), Carrie Pipperidge (Carousel), Judy Haynes (White Christmas) and Madame de Tourvel (Dangerous Liaisons). Some of her next performance engagements include playing the character of Zorah (Ruddygore) at Lamplighters Music Theatre as well as portraying the role of Maria Bertram in the west coast premiere of Jonathan Dove’s new opera, Mansfield Park.
